Twist in the story

I think about you when I know you haven’t said my name in years.

Little did I know, everything I thought I knew about “us” was all lies.

I think about you when I’m lost in a crowd.

Do you remember that old swing set,

we’d run until we’re were out of breath?

We carved our names into a tree,

promising forever longing for the old days.

It’s like the way we were.

The times I’ve fallen,

knowing you wouldn’t pick me up.

You’d let it happen, wouldn’t stop it.

I think about you out of the blue,

seeking connection that draws me back to you.

My heart was all in,

bittersweet our love had a flat line.

Didn’t think our story would end like this.
